I was born in the UK, but I was immersed in the Chinese culture from my family. At home I speak Cantonese but I have studied Mandarin for 10 years and can speak, read and write it fluently.
I would be ideal for someone looking for a native English speaker who is also fluent in mandarin to teach them the language.
Helped parents with teaching younger siblings Chinese.
Firstly, the student is taught to recognise and read Chinese characters, as well as learn the pronunciation system called 'Pinyin'. After learning the Pinyin system, the student will be able to search for characters in the dictionary and be able to confidently pronounce the word.
Next, the student will be taught how to write Chinese. As a child, I was required to rewrite words dozens of times, in order to commit it to memory and I feel like this is a crucial aspect of learning Chinese. The student is required to dedicate some time each week practising writing Chinese - though not necessarily as many as a few dozens!
As the student progresses further, he/she will eventually be able to combine Chinese characters, form phrases and sentences.
As a native English speaker, I believe I have the ability to answer questions and deal with problems from the student's perspective really well.
