Personal Description:
I have a degree in Italian, French and linguistics and lived in Italy for 11 years. I am a published translator and experienced interpreter being fluent in spoken and written Italian.
Teaching Experience:
During my 11 years in Rome I taught English to foreign students. Since returning to England I have taught Italian and French privately and for the Cockermouth and Keswick adult education centre. I have also taught small groups of professionals who required the Italian and French languages as part of their work.
Teaching Approach:
To ensure my students get the most out of the lessons I create a relaxed atmosphere and use a variety of resources to make the lessons enjoyable and interesting.

From Rachel (/5): Gill is a great teacher. I'm a native English speaker but i didn't have any understanding of English grammar when i first started. Gill was very patient and easily explained the rules of English Grammar from the most basic to the more complicated. I am really happy I went with Gill, and a cuppa tea was always provided in a warm, friendly, relaxed atmosphere :) I definitely recommend Gill as a tutor.

From Kerri (/5): I haven’t yet taken many lessons, however Gillian has very quickly worked out a programme of study that has allowed me to make progress already - and I have noticed this myself. I really enjoy the lessons and despite initially being apprehensive about how much french I’d ‘lost’ over the years, she immediately put me at ease! Love my lessons, would fully recommend!

Gillian is knowledgeable, patient and encouraging, and has supported me greatly with my learning. I would highly recommend her to anyone wishing to learn Italian at whatever level.

From Diane (/5): Gillian is an extremely approachable and knowledgeable tutor. She seeks to understand the level of knowledge in the individual and the desired goals. She is well prepared for each lesson, using different types and styles of materials, and real life situations. She guides you through each stage of the learning whilst continually checking and supporting your progress to date. I very much enjoy our lessons and feel at ease and confident in speaking french , knowing that my "mistakes " become just another way of learning and look forward to each lesson.

From Anna (/5): Although I have only had a couple of sessions with Gillian , I can see what a well organised person she is. The work she has prepared / planned for the session is both interesting and is appropriate to my level of needs. She is able to deal with problems quickly and efficiently and answer any questions with ease. She clearly enjoys her work and the sessions are the full 1 hour and she tells you what we will be covering the following week so the student is prepared - she is altogether a very professional person.
