George offers a FREE first / introductory lesson!
¡Hola! I'm George, a second year undergraduate at the University of Cambridge. I'm offering one-to-one or group sessions online for students studying GCSE, iGCSE or AS level (year 12 ie beginning A level) or the equivalent level for adults (up to B1 level of fluency). I'm really passionate about languages, in particular Spanish and I really enjoy helping students (or adults) to improve their command of Spanish.
For school students, my age means I can easily relate to the possible struggles of learning a language at school which I know a lot of students experience; I know well how to go about getting over this barrier and making lessons fun. It's not long ago that I remember being sat in a GCSE lesson being one of the few students who actually wanted to be studying a language and I could easily see that everyone made much more progress when we took on more enjoyable activities.
Therefore, I endeavour to incorporate fun as a central element lessons, discussing topics which are more engaging for students. Learning about Spanish culture is also something I would integrate as there are so many interesting aspects to it which you might not hear about in lessons.
If you are struggling with the basics, I am very happy to patiently go through these, particularly focusing on verbs and tenses as these are the backbone to being able to speak and write in any language.
For more advanced students: my Spanish teacher used to say that if you imagine filling a glass jar with golf balls, the golf balls are what you learn in school, while the whole jar is all there is to learn in Spanish - depending on what you would like to do, I can revise the content of the 'golf balls' and could also cover some content of the empty space within the jar ie what you don't learn at school.
For adults, I can offer a dynamic and engaging experience to improve your Spanish no matter what level you are at and what you wish to achieve - whether that's being able to have a full conversation or just be able to say a few useful expressions and questions to use in a native-speaking country.
Whatever your goals, I'm sure I will be able to help you on your Spanish-speaking journey!
- 5 A*s at A level (Spanish, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, EPQ)
- 10 9's at GCSE (Spanish, French, Maths, English lit, English lang, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, DT)
I have several years of informal experience of helping students in younger years and in my year at my school with their Spanish.
For students, I am aware that getting the grade is often the most important goal. I have recent experience of taking these exams and therefore know the markschemes well and a few ways of guaranteeing yourself more marks in the exam.
I am very willing to adapt my teaching to what you want to get out of it. In your initial email (before your free trial lesson), please could you let me know:
- a rough estimate of what level of Spanish you're at and what level you aim to reach
- whether you'd prefer Skype, Zoom or any other particular platform to do your lessons on
- what time of day/week suits you (I am currently free pretty much all the time)
- if you'd like one-to-one or group lessons
