Information About Estefania - Leicester teacher

Personal Description:

I am an experienced Spanish teacher from Mexico. My passions are Archaeology, History and teaching Spanish. I studied my bachelor in Archaeology in Mexico and moved to Europe to continue studying. I did two masters in Holland and I moved to the UK several years ago to undertake my PhD in Spanish and Latin American studies at University College London. While doing my PhD I started to give Spanish lessons to students of Modern Languages at University College London and I discovered that I love teaching Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Spanish since 2011, first in the Modern Languages department at University College London and then in the Modern Languages department at the University of Leicester.

Teaching Approach:

I am focused on delivering Spanish classes in which students learn the language while at the same time enjoy what is being taught. I find that creating a stimulating learning environment is essential for the students and helps them to reach their goals. Because of this I have developed Spanish classes that have given our students a better understanding of the language, culture and history of Spain and Latin America by the use of text books, news articles, PowerPoints, games, music videos and short stories tailoring the classes according to the needs and interests of the students. I have received positive student feedback as they find this material very engaging while also helping them to improve their learning experience. I also like to keep up to date with pedagogical developments in Spanish language teaching. Because of this, I regularly take professional development courses specialised in teaching Spanish as a second language. The courses provide me with an up to date understanding of current educational views, methods and techniques in my area of expertise and I regularly apply what I have learnt in these courses to my teaching.
