This is how 3 referees rated Ellie:
My name is Ellie, and I run a vibrant language school, teaching adults French and English.
I believe learning a new language should be an exciting and self-enhancing journey.
And my aim is to give you the confidence to direct your learning. With this in mind, my classes are very much focused on real conversation and communication.
As a native English speaker who learnt French whilst teaching English in Lyon, I know that adults learn languages better away from the traditional classroom.
As such, my tutoring is less about rigid repetition and more about enabling you to speak confidently, and to really understand the language you are learning.
I have been speaking French for 25 years now, and I lived in France for three years, first working as an English teacher and then for a French humanitarian organisation. I then went on to use French in my career again, buying Crystal D'Arques glasses and later, as a wine as a buyer for Tesco. I even married a Frenchman and I now have a French family.
With four years’ experience of teaching French as a foreign language, I can improve your speaking skills, no matter what stage you’re at, and I typically teach at the following levels:
• Complete beginners
• People who want to brush up on their school French, either for pleasure or because they want to work in France
• Intermediate speakers who have been learning French for a while and want to boost their skills to the next level
• Professionals who need to use French for business
I have five years’ experience of teaching English as a foreign language, and I can help you if:
• You only have basic English and would like to communicate more confidently
• You want want to keep practising your English so you don’t lose your skills
• You are preparing for the IELTS exam.
• You need to speak proficient business English
In the last 12 months, I have taught more than fifty students, either face-to-face or over Skype.
I start by showing them how the language works and provide a thorough grounding in the basics.
This is followed by conversational coaching; teaching students to speak in sentences. Some people can find this rather daunting, so I always work hard to build up their confidence first.
The next stages are conversational and listening skills for real, fluent communication; advanced speaking; and business tutoring. I teach via the following formats:
- Skype lessons
- One-to-one private tutoring
- Group conversational classes
- Intensive crash courses
As your tutor, I have many roles – I am here to guide you through your learning, to motivate you towards your goals and make it easy for you to learn in a way that works best for you.
I have, for instance, taught people with dyslexia, and I have just completed a course on teaching approaches for people with learning differences. These techniques are proving to be popular with all my students.
In my experience, adult learners thrive on variety and fun and this is at the heart of my teaching approach, because I want to you to benefit from every single minute that you are learning with me.
I can offer weekly lessons and intensive courses (either face-to-face or remotely) anywhere in the UK.
