Personal Description:
I am a Norwegian tutor and postgraduate researcher at the University of Surrey and I offer Skype lessons for those who want to learn how to speak and write Norwegian.
My teaching style is distinctive and facilitates a rapid grasp of the language. With experience in instructing English at the secondary school level, my lessons address specific language hurdles encountered by native English speakers. Moreover, they adeptly leverage linguistic similarities between the languages, enabling you to seamlessly bridge the gap between them in a remarkably short period.
The first lesson is free! (ONE free lesson per purchased details, does not apply to finite projects e.g. translation of a text etc.)
Packages offered:
5 lessons: £170 (£34 per lesson)
10 lessons: £300 (£30 per lesson)
Otherwise the rate is £50 per lesson.
(30 mins is charged as a full hour)
24 hrs cancellation policy.
Packages expire 12 months after date of purchase.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked two years as a political science teacher at university level and two years as a social science teacher at a sixth form college.I have also tutored GCSE Maths, Science and English at a secondary academy from 2015-2017
Teaching Approach:
I provide lessons through Skype, a highly effective platform for learning a new language. This medium facilitates crucial interactions between students and tutors, enabling instant written and verbal feedback on their work. Unlike in-person meetings, learning through Skype offers a less stressful and more comfortable environment, where verbal and written communication seamlessly intertwine. This approach allows students to naturally assimilate the language. Despite their intensity, these lessons will undoubtedly expedite your journey to mastering Norwegian.

Astrid has been very patient and encouraging in her approach, and I am starting to get to grips with some of the basic rules of grammar in the Norwegian language, alongside improving my pronunciation.

She has a genuinely really good grasp of the key concepts underpinning grammar but also makes the lessons easy to follow and enjoyable. Her lessons are very professional and she clearly knows very well what she is doing (I have learned German and Spanish with other tutors previously so I know when a tutor is not good, and Elisabeth is certainly not one of them!) I would highly recommend and I have no doubts that my learning will progress will with Elisabeth

Our classes are great fun, and Elisabeth is easily able to adapt the structure of the lessons to accommodate specific questions I might have on language or grammar. When commencing with the tutoring, I had some clear objectives, which I feel I am well on the way to achieving with Elisabeth's support and guidance. I'd previously learnt Norwegian informally, and I think one of the great benefits of working with Elisabeth has been to have formal rules of Norwegian language and grammar explained to me in a way that is easy to grasp. I would recommend Elisabeth to others without hesitation.

From Tzen (/5): I am starting a PhD researching the English translation of Ibsen's plays, and began having Norwegian lessons with Elisabeth in June 2020 in order to refresh my rusty Norwegian and support my reading of Ibsen in his original language. Since then, I have had at least two, sometimes three lessons a week with Elisabeth, and have only great things to say about these lessons with her. We have now read the first act of Gengangere (Ghosts) together, and her linguistic and cultural insights have hugely enriched my understanding of the text. As a teacher, I find her unfailingly patient, kind, engaging and helpful, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons with her. I look forward to many more such lessons over the course of my PhD. I have no hesitation in recommending Elisabeth as a teacher and am happy to be contacted if anyone has any questions.

She has plenty of patience. She is diligent and organised too with many resources/suggestions to offer. She uses Skype which is very handy for learning/correcting things on the fly.

From Caroline (/5): Astrid Elisabeth is a wonderful teacher. She has clever ways of helping you remember things, such as the pronunciation of certain letters. I feel like my pronunciation has come on a long way after just a few lessons. She provides plenty of resources for learning in-between lessons if you want to, but there is no pressure, as she is very mindful of people’s busy schedules. She is extremely reliable, and also flexible if you need to change the time of your lesson every now and again. I would thoroughly recommend Astrid Elisabeth - I am really enjoying learning with her!

From Ben (/5): A wonderfully different approach to language learning using Skype sessions to provide the additional material that complements free on-line resources like Duolingo that you are encouraged to access. Time is not therefore spent on pleasantries and other conversational set pieces that were typical when I was learning other languages in classes but instead into the nuts and bolts of a language to improve understanding and pronounciation. This made for challenging and focussed sessions.

My son is always excited about these lessons and his language skills have improved quickly. Elisabeth gives interesting and variable tasks and explains grammar/ spelling rules effectively. Elisabeth is very accommodating and it has never been a problem changing the time/day of a lesson. I would highly recommend Elisabeth for anyone wanting to learn Norwegian.
