Personal Description:

I am a very experienced and well qualified teacher of Modern Foreign Languages with a real passion for teaching and for my subjects. I have taught most age groups, though the majority of my teaching has been with students aged 16 and above, and I especially enjoy working with adult learners. In all of my classes, I do my utmost to enable my learners to achieve their goals through a blend of patience, persistence and total commitment.

I'm an outgoing person with a typically Liverpudlian sense of humour. Outside teaching, I'm quite sporty, and very recently, have been attempting to learn salsa dancing, though my si si si is still still a big non, non, non. I also like football (keen Liverpool supporter),cinema, and, naturally enough, travel and foreign languages.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 30 years’ experience of teaching French, German, and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to young and adult learners at all levels from beginners to post A Level. During my career, I’ve served as head of 3 different Language departments. I have also mentored new teachers, and managed and contributed to a range of initial training and teacher development programmes.

In the UK, I have taught in three further education institutions and a small number of private language schools, and have also taught English in France, Spain and Germany. I have both with whole classes, and also planned and delivered tailor-made courses to small groups and individuals.

Summing-up, I have a successful record of GCSE, A Level and IELTS student attainment, and proven ability (from records of formal graded observed lessons) of consistently high levels of classroom performance.

Teaching Approach:

I would never subscribe to ONE approach to teaching, as I always aim to be as flexible as possible in course planning and in adapting my methodology and materials to the needs and ability of the individual learner. In my classes, a key priority is to achieve a balance of fun and serious learning. At any level, I endeavour to make maximum use of the foreign language, so learners are constantly hearing the language being taught, and participating actively. My classes are always, therefore, highly interactive, which enables my learners to make steady, sometimes extremely rapid, progress.

I make use of a number of published courses and home-produced resources, and use Information Technology extensively in producing materials. Finally, I am equally comfortable working with whole groups and individual learners
