I am doing a PhD in Linguistics at Edinburgh for the time being. My research focuses on Chinese languages. To me, analysing the system of human communication by employing an analytic approach, in a similar way to dismantling a watch to check how the mechanism works, has always been an interesting challenge to me. By the way, Taiwanese lessons, an ancient, beautiful language in the Chinese family, are provided if you are interested in.
Currently, I am a tutor for the department of Linguistics and English Language and for the PPLS Writing Centre at Edinburgh.
Various experiences in teaching languages make my lectures practical. Since 2005, I have been teaching Mandarin as a part-time language instructor.
After completing my Masters, I used to work for International Chinese Language Programme (ICLP) at National Taiwan University, where students have received intensive language instruction. ICLP is founded for the purpose of training and developing the oral discursive ability of academic elite.
By the lectures students could not only greatly improve their oral expression, but also enjoy the culture. Teaching materials will be determined on the basis of students' language proficiency level. Textbooks are rendered in either traditional or simplified characters to suit students' needs.
Classes emphasise oral practice, so students must spend adequate time preparing each lesson. While speaking is a core component of the lectures, all classes provide comprehensive training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Coursework may include reading materials, recorded audio materials, written assignments, and other language tasks. Students will be assessed by dictation quizzes and or written exams.
