Information About Anthony - Harpenden teacher - (5 reviews)
This is how 5 referees rated Anthony:
I'm 26 years old, a graduate of the University of London (MA) and full-time tutor with around three years' experience.
I received a distinction in Latin as part of my MA Classics degree, and continue to enjoy studying and teaching both Latin and ancient Greek.
Extensive experience in teaching prep-school, GCSE, A-level and degree-level Latin to ages ranging between 7 to 40+ yrs.
Select achievements of 2015:
Pupil i. (Prep) Missed a year of Latin. After a year's tutoring, his recent mock exams have placed him in the top three in his class.
Pupil ii. (Prep) A pupil for around two and a half years, he was awarded a place at Westminster School as a scholar and is at the top of his year for Latin. We are currently preparing for the Latin scholarship paper.
Pupil iii. (Prep) Bright though receiving consistently low marks in his Latin and Greek mock papers, he achieved an A in the end-of-year examinations in both subjects after c six months tuition, and recieved a place at a top London school.
Pupil iv. (GCSE) Suffering from dyslexia and receiving low marks on her language papers, she eventually achieved an A after c six months of tuition. Now studying at a top London girls' school.
Pupil v. (A Level entrance examination) A pupil for c two months, she received a place in the sixth form of a top London school after help with examination and interview technique.
Select achievements of 2014:
Pupil i. (GCSE) A pupil for a year, he received an A in his end-of-year examination.
Pupil ii. (Degree Level) Struggling with the first year Latin course and receiving consistently low marks, after only c 5 hours tuition she received a 2:1.
I use the first lesson to assess the extent of the pupil's grammatical knoweldge by asking for the recitation of tables and perhaps a translation of a small piece of prose or verse matched in difficulty to the pupil's level.
After this assessment, the following lessons are based around the needs of the pupil, with practice questions and passages forming the basis of our learning.
Imperative to my lessons are a sense of humour and frequent chats - this provides relief, which in turn stimulates concentration, and allows for a rapport to be built with the pupil.
A recent reference:
"[Anthony] is patience, sympathetic, and good in tailoring his teaching method to suit the need and ability level of his student. He is currently helping my son to prepare for the 13 plus common entrance scholarship exams for Latin and English, of whom is aiming for the Westminster School in 2016, year 9 entry.
Anthony has a good sense of humour and a very relaxed manner, that makes my kid feeling easy and comfortable to work on the subjects. A wonderful kind tutor who encourage and motivate my child to achieve the best. My son is the top of his year in Latin since Year 6, 100 per cent creditability to Anthony.
I would have no hesitations to recommending Anthony."
Please note that for pupils outside a three mile radius of my house and who require my travelling to them, there is an additional charge for travelling expenses/time taken in addition to my standard hourly rate. This is negotiated with the client before details are exchanged.
