Hello everyone! My name is Anna and I am an Italian native speaker currently studying Psychology at the University of Liverpool. Before moving to the UK, I attended a language and grammar school (“Liceo Classico Claudio Eliano", Italy, Rome, 2012 – 2015) which gave me the possibility to build a solid knowledge of Italian grammar rules and Italian culture and literature. I would love to teach my students how beautiful and fascinating this language can be, always directing my lessons to their interests and learning targets. I would also always provide my students with the appropriate material, such as grammar sheets, texts to study, a free placement test during the first lesson, books and folders for their notes and everything necessary for an easy, enjoyable and effective learning!
I first started teaching at the age of fifteen, giving Italian, English, French, history and science lessons to either younger students or students of my same age who needed to catch up on their school program. After moving to the UK in 2015 I continued teaching Italian mostly to adult learners on several levels, spacing from beginner to expert.
My approach to teaching is evenly split between theory and practice: I would recommend every student to book in for two hour long sessions, so to focus on grammar and practice on the first hour and on culture and conversation on the second one. I believe that knowledge of the grammar basis is essential when learning Italian and for this reason I adirect meticulous attention to explaining thoroughly both rules and exceptions of the language: the goal for me is for my students to be able to form verbs and sentence structure following and understanding their logic rather than memorizing random words.
On the second hour (dedicated to culture and conversation) I usually try to match my students’ interests and necessities to prepare the topics that will be discussed. Some might prefer to stick to an Italian narrative book they like and read it and analyse it with me, noting down new words and learning how to recognise the different grammar structures. Some would like to learn specific lexis related to certain topics (e.g. medical language, food, cinema, music, etc), whilst others prefer to get informed on actuality and facts in Italy reading newspapers together and discussing them.
The objective of each two hour long session is to cover all four areas of the language: speaking, listening, writing and reading.
However, I will always be flexible to adopt the method my students think is most appropriate for their needs.
I can also provide a 30 minutes lessons for 10£.
