Personal Description:
Dia duit, is mise Anna, agus tá mo chroí agus m'anam istigh sa Ghaeilge!/ Hello, I'm Anna, and I'm passionate about the Irish language! I am an Irish language professional and for over 15 years I have been active in pobal na Gaeilge/ the Irish language community. I am fascinated by the written word and Irish language grammar.
I have a Masters with first class honours in "Irish language Writing and Communication" from University College Dublin, and I specialise in Irish language grammar. I have worked in the Irish language sector since 2019 and have a broad range of experience in administration, creative writing, journalism, translation, proofing and tutoring.
Teaching Experience:
I have 2 years of tutoring experience. I began tutoring Irish language on line during the pandemic in 2021, and have since found that I not only really enjoy it, but I have a real knack for it! I have successfully helped learners develop from only having cúpla focal/ a few words to being able to hold a fluent conversation on limited Irish, which has been a real confidence boost for the learner. I have successfully helped learners make sense of the trickiest Irish language grammar and inspire them to overcome hurdles in their language learning journey.
I tutor learners as a complimentary service alongside their ranganna/ Irish language classes and their own personal study.
Teaching Approach:
My approach is casual and compliments Irish language classes the learner is undertaking separately and personal self-study. I do not tutor according to a particular educational syllabus. I specialise in Irish language grammar.
The learner will benefit most from my tuition by bringing to me any questions they have that they, for example, don't have time to raise in a class setting, or can't figure out from self-study. Or, perhaps the learner wants to practise their verbal Irish, listening skills, or reading skills. I adopt a patient approach where I am happy to listen, correct and advise, providing the learner with a comfortable space to make mistakes and improvements. I am on the learner's side and will do everything I can to help them attain their language goals!
