Hello! My name is Alexandra. I graduated in 2017 from the University of Bristol with a first class honours degree in Law and French. I am currently pursuing the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law before I begin my training contract in 2019 as a solicitor at an international law firm based in London. During my degree, I spent 1 year living and studying French law in Bordeaux. During my time there, I interned at a French law firm. I come from a multi-lingual family with two French-speaking parents (my mother is a native speaker). As a flexible student with only two full days a week at university, I am looking to supplement my studies with an engaging job and promote my love for the French language.
I have taught ESL (English as a Second Language) to European teenagers at an American summer camp in Maine for the past two summers. I assist with both French and Spanish homework to children who I babysit aged between 10-13. I have experience with teaching young children English as a volunteer in both Costa Rica and Ghana. I have interned at a languages school in Paris (Paris Langues) which provides intensive French courses to international students. In addition, having studied French from primary school up to degree level, I have a good understanding of the structure and teaching syllabuses that are implemented at school, for GCSE and A-level exams and the skills that are taught at university level.
I believe in a very tailored approach to teaching French. The first session would focus on what he or she hopes to achieve and setting goals to work towards. My teaching method will depend on the individual needs of the student. For a school student, I will follow the structure of the specific examination board the student will sit their exams with, using a combination of oral practice, grammar lessons and structuring essays, spending more time on the weaker skill. For an adult who wishes to improve their language skills to spend more time abroad, each lesson will focus on a different topic, building vocabulary and sentence structures to be able to engage comfortably in conversation.
