Personal Description:

I have extensive school-based experience, teaching at key stages 2, 3, 4, and 5. I have taught GCSE and A level French and Spanish for over 20 years.

I am now a freelance self-employed languages consultant teaching from my home or online.

Tuition is offered to adults - one to one, small groups. Beginners, intermediates, advanced.

General English is also offered. IELTS. IELTS for Spanish and French native speakers is a speciality. Intensive homestay option is available in Harpenden.

Teaching Experience:

Enfield Grammar School - 7 years. Taught across the age and ability range, including French and Spanish groups both GCSE and A-level.

Sir Frederick Osborn School, Welwyn Garden City - 5 years. Head of Modern Languages.

Roundwood Park School, Harpenden - 4 years. Head of Spanish.

Kip McGrath Education Centre Harpenden - owner and franchisee, 5 years. Maths and English tuition for youngsters aged 6 to 16.

Prior to teaching, I worked for the National Westminster Bank in its international division in various departments with postings to Paris and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for some 12 years. I have used both my French and Spanish in a business context. I also offer business French and Spanish.

Teaching Approach:

My approach to teaching can be summed up in just three words, fun, focus and progress.

Fun - language learning has to be, first and foremost, fun.

Focus - what is the aim of the lessons and are they met?

Progress - what progress is made in the lesson and over time? Progress is kept under constant review
