Personal Description:

Hello there! I'm a Italian linguist and language expert currently based in Edinburgh. I moved here in 2017 to complete a MSc in Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh. languages are my biggest passion and my whole career.

Although I was born in Italy from Italian parents, I moved to Barcelona at a very young age (10yo). When I turned 19, I decided to move to the UK to start university.

Teaching Experience:

I've tutored privately on and off for 5 years now to both adults and university students. 2 years ago, to improve my skills as a teacher, I took the Introductory Course in Education and Training (ICET) at the University of Central Lancashire.

Teaching Approach:

I've taught to students at varying different levels, from absolute beginners to conversational speakers. I always try to tailor the lessons to the students' interests and aims as much as I can, tweaking my lesson plans as we go along.

For example, a few years ago I taught Italian to a retired couple that was planning on spending two months in southern Italy. Since they had not studied Italian before, in the lessons I focussed as much on building conversation skills as on basic grammar. The exercises I prepared encouraged them to improvise and roleplay, activating the fundamentally creative aspect of language.

On the other end of the spectrum, for two years I tutored a student with almost native fluency. With him, I focussed mostly on maintaining conversation skills and widening his vocabulary. To do this, we often read poetry, books and even listened to some opera, dealing with advanced grammar questions only when (and if) they arose.

For students who need them, I usually prepare handouts to follow in class as well as exercises to activate grammar skills and stimulate vocabulary recall.
