Information About Matthew - Morecambe trainer
This is how 3 referees rated Matthew:
Computer Science & Maths teacher for 18 years. I deliver Online & local In-person sessions, and provide free support outside of sessions when necessary, via Email or Zoom.
I currently have a particular interest in training people in computer programming (coding), and in this capacity, I've used software such as Python, GameMaker, Scratch, SQL, MIT App Inventor, and the BBC micro:bit hardware. I am pleased to mention that, in an attempt to inspire my students, I published a game app called **Removed By Admin**, which is available on Android and iOS via the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. I am even more pleased to say that I thought-up, designed, programmed (coded), created and published the app, completely by myself. Although I did involve my students every step of the way, as testers, idea providers, and advertisers, which hopefully inspired them even more.
During my time in a school, I was a Senior Teacher, Head of Department for Computer Science & ICT, Supervisor, Student Teacher Mentor, Head of House, ICT Coordinator, and an IT Technician, which included some Network and Systems Administration.
I have eighteen years of teaching Computer Science, ICT & Maths, at an SEMH Secondary School.
I was the ICT Coordinator, which meant I had to provide regular training sessions for the staff, in all things ICT, in groups, or individually when requested. During the lock-down, I also provided online technical and software support to staff, via Emails, messaging and Zoom, this included training staff in using Learning Management Systems and Zoom
I've tutored at after school clubs, from home, at a tutoring company's premises, and online, in Computer Science, Programming and Maths.
I have many years of being an IT Technician in a school, while teaching a full timetable, which helps if we have problems with the technology :)
Since the lock-down started, I've been working from home. This included teaching many one-to-one live lessons using Zoom, or lessons on-demand, using a Learning Management System (LMS) called 'Canvas'. This LMS allowed me to create, set, receive, and mark assignments. I also made announcements, created and moderated chat rooms, and gave students feedback and support when necessary, using various methods, such as recorded video, live video, comments, or messaging. I will be using Zoom, and/or an LMS called 'Google Classroom' for online tutoring, both live and on-demand.
I have also completed an Open University OpenLearn intermediate level education course called 'Taking Your Teaching Online', as well as an LMS course called 'Growing With Canvas'.
I will provide support outside of tutoring sessions, when necessary, using Email and Zoom.
I like to use a range of online resources, including screen sharing, coding puzzles, my own Kahoot quizzes, instructional videos, programming software and interactive tasks, while providing my complete support throughout. These tools make my training sessions stimulating, engaging and challenging, which achieves much better results.
I base my training on developing a quick rapport with trainees, through being easy going, talkative, engaging, supportive, understanding, passionate about my subject(s), pleasant, polite and humorous - in my opinion anyway! I also have interests such as sport, gaming, science, comedy and movies, which can help deliver training objectives, build relationships, and start conversations.
I have years of experience at being able to pitch sessions at the right level for each individual trainee, ensuring that tasks are both challenging and achievable.
