Personal Description:

Having used computers almost as long as she can remember, Holly is a patient and understanding tutor interested in helping anyone unfamiliar with technology take their first steps and begin using what the world of technology has to offer.

It's never too late to start and no lack of experience makes anything out of reach.

Training Experience:

Holly has previously run a beginner's IT training course as a volunteer for three years. Most students were between 50-90 years old. All of them were able to accomplish new things and leave after the 4-week course with a more comfortable attitude to their computers, even if they had never touched a mouse before. The students learned to type and edit text, utilise the basics of owning a home PC, connect to the internet and use email to contact their friends and family.

Holly also previously ran tech help drop-in sessions at a local library. By engaging directly with members of the public from all walks of life, she helped them develop their understanding of their devices, from phones and tablets to laptops, or helped to solve specific technical problems they were having.

Areas of expertise include: MS Office, app or browser based email, mobile devices and general technical problem solving.

Training Approach:

The stance Holly takes on computer training is that it's never too late to learn. As the IT world becomes more accessible it also offers valuable benefits. Everyone deserves access to the wealth of information available online, or just to make their lives easier by ordering their shopping online, or even finding ways to stay better socially connected.

Any tutee can explain their specific needs and desires for an experience shaped directly to their situation. From home PC use to a step-by-step introduction to a new phone, Holly believes any skill wanted no matter how small is worth teaching.
