"I was struggling to understand my teacher at school. When I asked for help he didn't seem to be able to explain in a way I could understand. In my January mock exam I obtained a grade E and Charles told my parents it was unlikely I would do much better in the June exam so he advised against sitting the higher paper. I know that a lot of universities ask for Grade C or above for courses so I was determined to do better.
I learnt more in my first lesson with Charles than I did in a full term with my school teacher! I often felt embarrassed to ask questions in front of my classmates at school but it didn't matter between myself and my tutor. I've gained a lot of confidence in my abilities.
Charles was very patient and explained the concepts in a way I could understand. He also provided exam technique tips so I knew which questions to focus on.I'm not sure what I want to study at university but I do know that with my B grade I can apply for a wider choice of courses and universities, which will increase options for my future career. I will definitely ask my parents to arrange a tutor again for my AS subjects if I need extra help."
