The pros and cons of home tuition

July 27th, 2009 by Emily

As news headlines are increasingly dominated by stories of knife crime and teen gang violence, it may come as no surprise to learn that more and more parents are opting to stay away from the school gates and have their children exclusively tutored at home.

The theory is that if they are schooled indoors, children will grow up without encountering many of the less desirable elements of the school system and street culture, including bullying, drugs and "falling in with the wrong crowd".

But what are your views - as parents, do you believe home tuition is the best way to keep your children safe? Do you believe that your children will receive a higher standard of education if they are schooled one-to-one by a private tutor at all times? Or are pupils that are exclusively home tutored missing out on an important part of growing up that other children cope with perfectly well?

You may feel that home tuition is in your child's best interest. Or maybe you believe that there is no need to be tutored in such a way, and that the school environment is important for a child's social development. Either way, we would like to hear what you think, so please share your views ...
