My first inspiration is the natural world and the infinite variations of colours in different lights. As a contrast to this I am facinated with the geometry of letterforms from the classical C1 Roman alphabets to the pre printing ilalic script. I like experimenting with all colour media and materials… This is a contrast between the intense focus needed for detail when drawing and a relaxed atmosphere of experimental effects. The use of a drawing pen and compass has opened up the possibilities of compass and line made patterns. I am chairman of Lingfield Scribes a calligraphy group I founded during my time as an Adult Education teacher.

I have taught drawing and all colour media in addition to calligraphy and design to all levels of students. My approach to teaching is as varied as the students who I train. I have worked 3 dimentional fields as a potter and a ceramic sculptur and 2 dimensionally as a calligrapher. What inspires me is the personal interpretation of ideas & the development of this in an individual student. I am contine to enjoy teaching now I am over 70
