Teaching Experience:
I am experienced in teaching formal creative writing courses as well as running creative writing workshops in a wide range of settings, including primary and secondary schools, colleges, prisons and community groups, using a range of techniques to inspire writing. I have developed materials for Barbican Education for use in primary schools and devised long-term projects in schools.
My years of teaching include working both in the UK and overseas, up to and including university level, in classrooms and privately. My students have been as young as six or as old as sixty. They have been of varying abilities and from hugely different backgrounds. I have taught individuals in their homes as well as small groups at colleges, in libraries and in community organizations.
Teaching Approach:
I am experienced in teaching formal creative writing courses as well as running creative writing workshops in a wide range of settings, including primary and secondary schools, colleges, prisons and community groups, using a range of techniques to inspire writing. I have developed materials for Barbican Education for use in primary schools and devised long-term projects in schools.
I enjoy tutoring and find it a hugely rewarding experience. I think that my enthusiasm as an educator imbues my tutees with an eagerness to make progress in their work whilst the fact that I am a published and award-winning writer inspires them towards achieving their writing goals.
I encourage students to be robust enough to put their work out into the world as soon as possible, to take a positive approach to critiques of their work and to persist in working towards their goals, whether those be widespread publication or simply to complete a satisfying body of work.

I didn't like the clock watching part and when I asked if I could send a draft email for simple marking or comment, I got a firm 'let's talk about it' which meant no. I have had tutors in the past who have all been very happy to offer advice (for free) after lessons.
I like to be brutally honest, sorry.

Firstly, you knew the cost before you asked for my services and obtained my details from First Tutors so you could at that stage have sought an alternative.
Secondly, there are many tutors who charge far more than £45 per hour for Secondary School tuition. It is not uncommon for University level tuition to run into hundreds of pounds per hour. You only have to look at the First Tutors and other websites to confirm this.
Lastly, it takes time for me to review written work just as it takes time to do preparation. I need to earn a living. I can't work for free. Would you? For someone you've just met once with no guarantee that she will return and that there would be an ongoing engagement?
This, however, was not the primary reason for my hesitating to mark your assignment. Having only met you once, I felt that it would be best to sit down with you to go through the assignment so that you could see how and why I addressed issues in it.
My ongoing students have found that I offer help and support outside sessions and even when they have finished their engagements with me. Most of my colleagues are amazed at how much work I put into this.
Good luck with finding someone who will tutor you for what you deem acceptable or for free.
