Information About Sam - Croydon teacher - (12 reviews)
This is how 5 referees rated Sam:
I have played county level chess most of my life, having played for both the junior and adult open teams.
My English Chess Federation grade is currently 191.
I have taught juniors and adults. I have taught groups in primary and secondary schools and for the Kent Junior Chess Association alongside grandmasters John Emms and Chris Ward. I have also tutored many students privately 1-1.
I am very calm and patient. I encourage my students to work through tactical combinations in a systematic way to avoid mistakes. There are already many ways to improve tactical ability with various online tactics training puzzles, so I focus on explaining the ideas behind combinations and long term strategy. Having experience with most openings, I am also able to explain opening plans in depth and show similarities between seemingly unrelated openings.
