Hello! I am a writer and English Teacher from London with a passion for short fiction, but experience writing and editing plays, novels, radio drama, and poetry.
I've been writing for about ten years and though I've had some pieces performed and published online - I'm still chasing that ever elusive book deal! My background as an English teacher means I can edit and motivate effectively, so the level of the learner really doesn't matter. I can probably add something to your practice whether or not you are an experienced writer who just needs someone help you to stay on track, set deadlines and proofread - or the parent of a budding writer, who wants to nurture that talent. Perhaps you've always loved to read and now want to give creative writing a go, but you're keen to understand plot and dialogue, or metre and rhyme first.
Either way, I think we'd have a lot of fun exploring your aims and reading and writing some excellent literature!
I have been a teacher for five years, with a focus on English Language and Literature. I currently teach English at City University as part of the Academic English team where I train international students to write critical essays in English. I hold a first class degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and I'm currently a postgraduate in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths College, planning to progress to my doctorate in Literature and Creative Writing in 2019.
I use all of this experience when working with my students. More importantly, I use my love o**Contact Detail Removed**s, reading them and writing them - everything from the crime thriller of John Grisham and Kathy Reichs to the canonised texts of Shakespeare and Woolf, the satire of George Saunders or the short fiction of Lorrie Moore; poetry, plays, scripts, film, drama - I love it all and learn from it all. I can certainly help you to do the same!
Like all good teachers, I start with the student. What are your goals and aims? Is there a competition you want to apply for (or should be applying for, but don't yet know about?) Are you at agent contact stage? Does your manuscript need a second pair of eyes? Or are you just starting out and looking for inspiration, practice, and a list of helpful texts? I produce a different course for each student depending on their needs. All of them involve doing lots of reading and developing a consistent writing habit, but no two are the same!

Thanks for leaving feedback! Unfortunately there was some confusion in terms of session fee. My lessons start from £40, but this is of course dependent on course complexity, location and preparation. As your course was for two people, one very high level student with issues of fossilised errors and dentristry specific vocabulary, and one very low level student with mainly confidence issues, my own preparation for the lessons would have included psychology, biology, and English, with lots of time spent on activity creation - naturally this would incur a higher cost. It's unfortunate we weren't able to work together on this occasion, but I'm happy to know you were still happy with our meeting. Hopefully you'll be in touch if you find progress too slow with a cheaper tutor, I truly believe the course I developed for you both would generate results.
Good luck with the future learning, it was a pleasure to meet you.
