I teach LAMDA for exams, for those who do it for pleasure, getting a bit of confidence, or help with public speaking. I have worked with students with mild speech impediments - stuttering, articulation and just a simple lack of confidence. I also teach for the RADA exams, practical national exams, festivals and competitions, auditions for drama school and professional presenters and announcers who need feedback and practice for auditions. I have worked in theatre and successfully taught this subject for many years.
I am an author and journalist who has written books on cultural history, history of fashion and essays on cultural history through media. I write obituaries and articles for national newspapers and magazines here and in the USA. I also studied Film at University. I have done courses in research, through the London School of Business, worked on financial PR campaigns and prepared speeches, brochures and editorial for various companies. I have worked in theatre and I am currently at work on a screenplay and a non-fiction book. I have a degree in English Literature and a keen interest in American poetry and prose.
I have extensive experience teaching children and adults with dyslexia. I teach foreign students who want to achieve clarity in their speech, wanting to be understood in their daily speech, which may sometimes be obscured by an accent also teach Drama for examinations, as listed above. I like to tailor my teaching to the needs and interests of the student, encouraging reading around the subject.
My approach is positive, encouraging and practical. I have two grown children, who have very different learning styles, who both achieved significant success in drama.
I am able to guide students through the curriculum, or towards their own personal goals. I am prompt, accurate and understand the criteria and requirements of different educational establishments.
I am happy to report that all my students gained good pass marks this year and many got top marks, despite the uncertainty created by the new grading system in GCSE to A level.
I am confident that I can help students improve their grades, their speech and their pronunciation, build confidence and enjoy a sense of empowerment.
