Information About Marnie - Streatham teacher
This is how a referee rated Marnie:
Acting / Drama
I grew up in Shetland in the very north of Scotland. I left the islands at 17 years old to train in acting at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. I have been acting professionally ever since, enjoying a variety of roles in theatre and film, radio and television.
Most recent film credits include playing Manny’s mother in ‘Marionette’, starring Peter Mullan, and the leading role in ‘The Tormented’ for Blue Monkey Films, which is now available on Amazon. Recent television work includes roles in BBC’s 'Casualty', ‘Shetland’ and ITV’s ‘Coronation Street’.
Last year I completed work on my first directing job, short film ‘Bad Mother’ which is currently playing at various festivals around the world, described by Mark Kermode as ‘An excellently unsettling directorial debut’.
Whilst acting, producing and directing, I have always found time to work with people outside the entertainment industry on confidence building, team work and public speaking, ranging from professionals in business to children in schools.
I run The Drama Group, which holds children’s drama classes, based on creating confidence through improvisation and team work, and conduct sessions with professionals who struggle to speak naturally in public, and need to work on the delivery of speeches and presentations.
I am fascinated by the role drama can play to build confidence in public speaking, and passionately believe that with a little work anyone can speak to a crowd with confidence and ease.
I am highly skilled at helping actors of all ages to find ways unique to themselves that allow them to commit and find the truth in whatever role they are playing.
Quotes from The Drama Group:
“I have always had a great fear of public speaking. In my job as a clinical Nurse Specialist it is expected of me to present and give talks. Recently, I was asked to give a talk at a high profile conference. This was a great opportunity but the thought of speaking in front of a large audience provoked much anxiety. Marnie was amazing. She worked with me showing me simple concepts and techniques to help me manage my fears and anxieties. She helped me become more expressive and articulate. Showing me how to use my voice more effectively by focusing on tone, pitch and pace. How to build rapport with your audience and how to make a great and lasting first impression. With Marnie’s coaching I was able to deliver a confident talk as well as enjoying the whole experience.”
Cath Parry, Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist
“Marnie is an exceptional teacher and I feel privileged that my daughter has the opportunity to learn from her. She has a unique take on drama which enables the children to find their own inner qualities and confidence.”
Sarah Turner, Head teacher, Willow School
“My daughter, who has never enjoyed any kind of ‘joining in’ class, has adored these classes and comes out of each session buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm. Can’t recommend Marnie highly enough.”
Daisy Harman, teacher, Ravenstone School
