Information About Lis - Mildenhall teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Lis:
It all began when I was in school, and I was struggling very badly. I have a high IQ, but I definitely had some problems with maths and sciences which weren’t dealt with very effectively. I was also taking singing lessons (operatic ones – you can bet I don’t use those today!), and I then began lessons with a lady who became my speech coach.
I loved these lessons – oh my goodness did I love them! As I began to get ‘good at it’, there was a remarkable change in me. Having endured many years of bullying, right from my earliest school years, I began to see a reduction and then a cessation of it. Looking back I can see nothing else which was different, except this change in my voice, which was subtle, but showed an inner confidence, which I had clearly lacked before.
In my life from school age onwards, this voice has opened doors which would otherwise have been closed. My qualifications from school weren’t great (one O Level, five GCSEs an A Level), and so it took personal confidence and a willingness to learn to get me work. It has always worked – I have been offered almost every job I've applied for.
I've been teaching since spring of 2015, and I've enjoyed great success with all my pupils. In particular, I helped a boy on the Autistic spectrum to regain his normal speaking voice, which was a challenge, but now he's flying! I'm now also working with his sister to increase her confidence.
Lessons are fun - not formal. The 'exercises' I use are all about enjoying their voice and exploring accents and styles of speech, and this works wonderfully. I use different materials (mostly poetry) according to the child I'm working with, so every term is tailormade to your child, and their interests, with additional challenges thrown in.
With younger pupils, the work revolves more around increasing their vocal confidence, clarity of speech and their ability to express themselves accurately (by increasing their vocabulary). As students become teenagers, they work on more mature materials carefully chosen to work both to increase vocal confidence, but also to develop the more subtle tones of the voice. These materials also have the added bonus of developing empathy towards others - a very important aspect of communication.
Lessons can be conducted face to face or over Skype anywhere in the world.
Lessons are usually 30 minutes long for younger pupils, charged pro rata. Older students have 45 minute lessons.
