UPDATE: In line with current government advice I am only available for remote sessions via Skype or similar. I am confident I can deliver remote LAMDA examination sessions.
As an experienced LAMDA Examination tutor I would be very willing to tutor, and perform all administrative entrance paperwork, for anyone wishing to take a LAMDA exam. (Fee can be discussed). A graduate of the One Year Acting Course at the Oxford School of Drama, I am an open, confident and highly skilled communicator; ideal for anyone wishing to perfect public speaking or prep for drama school auditions.
I am a graduate of Royal Holloway University of London where I attained an Upper Second Class BA in English Literature and Drama (attended in 2006 when the University was ranked 3rd in the UK for the combined English & Drama course). I would be ideal for anyone studying literature, particularly Shakespeare, poetry, modernism and heightened language or for anyone wishing to further their creative writing skills.
Through my work experience, education and extra-curricular activities I have honed superb communication skills with both adults and young people. I am experienced at organising people and large events and have taught both within and outside the school curriculum at a variety of levels and ages. After driving solo across the USA in 2013 my strengths are my determination, pragmatism, patience and adaptability to new people and situations.
Sept 04 – Current LAMDA Examinations Tutor - Various locations but consistently at PSSA, Stone, Staffordshire; Stagecoach, Putney; Stagecoach, Newcastle-Under-Lyme; Stagecoach, Southgate
Main Responsibility: - Tutor pupils in one-on-one sessions for LAMDA examinations, including all entrance administration. Liaising with the exam board. Building a child’s confidence and ability to communicate.
Skills Gained: Engaging one-on-one with each pupil (aged 3-18 years). Analysing each child’s individual needs, then planning, preparing and delivering sessions tailored to that specific need, which includes creating educational resource material. Anticipating problems and initiating strategies to prevent those problems arising. Listening to and patiently communicating with children and their parents in order to aid them in achieving their goals.
2004 - Current Freelance Drama Teacher & Workshop Leader– Various locations but consistently at PSSA, Stone, Staffordshire; Stagecoach, Putney; Stagecoach, Newcastle-Under-Lyme; Stagecoach, Southgate and Bedford Modern School.
Main Responsibility: Planning, organising and teaching drama classes and workshops for children aged 3-18 years. Managing stage productions. Delivering the high standard of quality expected from the Stagecoach & PSSA brand.
Further Skills Gained: Communicating orally & in writing with students, parents & staff. Creatively capturing the attention of a group of young people and building open and lasting relationships with students and parents. Managing teachers, venue staff, technicians & volunteer parents, leading the team through to completion of public performances. Ability to plan meticulously but be flexible in evolving situations. Using foresight & initiative to plan all stages of a project through to the reflection period. Writing creative material for showcases, and performances.
June 12 – April 13 Temporary Teaching Assistant – RedBox Agency, Surrey
Main Responsibility: SENCO teaching assistant at Manorfield Primary School, Tower Hamlets, London; one-on-one support for a pupil with behavioural difficulties. Preparing reports on behaviour.
Further Skills Gained: Awareness and understanding of school curriculum (specifically Stage 1) & SEN care. Problem solving swiftly to diffuse difficult situations. Ability to understand when to change tact & be adaptable to circumstances.
I make it a priority to listen; each pupil is different and will have unique goals and hurdles to overcome. I make it my priority to discover what they are and adapt my tutoring to those needs. As a LAMDA Examination coach and a SENCO TA I have delivered tutorials and learning assistance that is tailored specifically to an individual child’s needs; I am proud of my ability to be sensitive to situation and circumstance, anticipate problems and quickly adapt where appropriate.
However, I do expect each pupil to repay my efforts with their best work and I will firmly encourage each pupil to achieve their utmost. I offer patience, support and drive; plus, as a drama teacher and workshop leader I try to always find creative ways of engaging pupils with the material.
