Personal Description:

I am an experienced and enthusiastic tutor. My strengths lie in observational realistic drawing - specifically landscapes - and printmaking techniques. I am from Northumberland, so I am very influenced by rugged rural landscapes! I have exhibited in London, and alongside my teaching practice sell commissions, prints, ceramics and original drawings.

I studied Fine Art and Art History at Kingston university (BA hons first class), and worked in restaurant management before becoming a teacher. I really do think being an art educator is the best job in the world.

Teaching Experience:

I am a secondary school art teacher which I love. I have taught various age ranges including primary through to A level (textiles, photography, ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture) and have been told that I am an outstanding practitioner.

I have delivered one-off workshops in primary schools and gained lots of experience with one-to-one tutoring whilst studying at university.

Teaching Approach:

I am very adaptable and would be happy to focus on one media or skill in particular - such as drawing, painting, art analysis or photography - or to develop a wide range of skills and techniques with a student, depending on age, time-frame and requirements. I would be happy to tutor small groups.

Art, for me as a student and now as a teacher, has always been a vehicle for individual expression, hard work and experimentation. Equally important is the fact that for many children with whom I have worked Art can be a refuge and aid visual reflection on experience in a way no other subject allows. I believe that Art can play a vital role in equipping students with the skills (problem solving and creativity), confidence (independent enquiry, adaptability, learning through mistakes) and qualifications that are valued by future employers to succeed in and beyond school.
