Information About Gavin - Bristol teacher
This is how 3 referees rated Gavin:
I graduated with a Distinction from the Creative Writing MA at Napier University, Edinburgh in 2012, and have been writing and studying the teaching of our craft since then. By day I teach secondary school English; by night and in the early dawn, I'm a writer. My love of the craft, the industry, and the literature they have produced spurs me on every day.
I have taught English in secondary schools since 2005, and I've been taught writing by several teachers and lecturers at universities and in seminars and master classes. I now have what it takes to break down the essential elements of plot, character, voice, point of view, thematic architecture, poetic language, and the fine art of dialogue.
I believe in learning by experience and by tearing up rules to see why they work, and often why they're slightly wrong. There are times for instruction and times for encouragement, times for effort and times for reflection; the key to success is in knowing when to do what, and that's why my approach is student centred. The relationship between teacher and student is analogous to a guide and an explorer: we work together to reach your destination.
