Beauty / Make-up
I recently worked at Penguin Random House amongst editors and got a feel of the publishing industry after having gained an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, one of the top three Creative Writing MA universities in the country. I also have a First BA qualification in Creative Writing from the University of Northampton. I have various short stories published online as well as short story anthologies, and I've also published poetry in the past. I love reading and worked as a sub-editor for Student Journals for a year. I have a YouTube channel where I occasionally give writing advice, amongst other videos.
My passion for writing has started from a very young age, and I have written and drawn my own children's book as an extra A Level qualification and have copies printed at the local library in my home town. I have also won and was runner-up in various writing competitions. Therefore, I have two short stories published online, a few poems, I was a regular article writer for the Student Journals, I have written for my BA university student newspaper, I was a Content Writer for Relations Group, creating over ten different websites, writing, editing and proof-reading in the process. And my BA dissertation extract was also published on Amazon.
My writing career fully started when I was 13 and I was featured in The Times for having won a Newsquest competition against all other secondary schools in the area.
But all technical details aside, I just love the English language, I have a passion for telling a story and being able to envision a character and then work to bring them to life. I aspire to be a published novelist and am currently working on my third novel, but I would love to share my love and thrive in this incredibly creative and innovational industry with those that may be curious to try it, those that can't quite find their voice and those that are certain of their writer's goal but just need some support along the way.
I look forward to meeting you. Please don't hesitate to get in contact.
I have taught many subjects to various ages. I have taught primary school children how to read for two years, therefore had two CRB check certificates, I have also taught secondary school students how to paint and draw, I have experience in giving loose private tuition to multiple friends in grammar and writing essays at university.
Throughout the years, I've had quite a bit of experience teaching children in general, abroad as well, and in a varied list of subjects such as English, Art, Painting and Drawing, Literature, Acting and Photography. Whilst Art is another great passion of mine, as is Make-Up and Beauty, and I work to teach my friends/family, as well as give advice on products and best techniques, most of my knowledge and experience is in the subject of writing, so I am certain I won't let you down. Whatever listed subject you need tutoring in, I'm happy to help, as long as it's a creative subject, I'm willing to show my passion and help you out!
My approach to teaching is to first get to know my tutee and see where they stand, make a list of their worries and weaknesses, and of course, their strengths, then work from there.
I am very open to ideas and allowing the student to be part of our session plan in order to listen and focus not only on a set schedule but also on unanswered questions or potentially confusing points. I am patient and am a big believer in support and encouragement as being the two most affective ways of teaching. I believe in honesty and feedback and always keeping in mind targets to improve while making them realistic and bringing them to the student's attention kindly and with the support in being able to tackle them.
Especially with the topic of Creative Writing being such a big passion of mine, I will always put in great effort and strive to create that same passion in others, with the same understanding for this subject as I have. My aim is to share and make students aware of what one can create through the power of writing.
As for art and the other subjects in my field, I tend to create examples, for instance, bring in paintings or show examples of make-up looks that I've done (I have to admit, my best work is working with the natural look in beauty), then see where the tutee stands, get a feel for their style, perhaps have them do a few exercises in order for us to get to know each other. It's all about communicating and being able to offer as much help as possible to get the tutee to the skill level of creative writing/art/makeup that they are aiming for. Plus have some fun along the way, of course!
