Information About Chris - Dorking teacher
This is how 3 referees rated Chris:
As a professional Freelance Writer, I have built a career from my ability to command the English language. I write a wide array of different kinds of texts, including formal articles and essays, fiction, poetry, and even prose-poetry. I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature with Philosophy & Creative Writing from the University of Hertfordshire, and a substantial part of studying for that qualification involved extensively workshopping my own writing and the writing of my peers. As such, I have a great deal of experience in getting down to the nitty-gritty of writing, and clearly identifying and resolving potential areas for improvement in any piece. In my reading, I am highly critical and have a keen grasp of what makes a text succeed or fail - and I have a way of delivering this understanding in my tutoring in a manner which is gentle, but firm.
I have great fun working closely one-on-one with writers of all skill levels and interests, and I genuinely get a kick out of bringing a piece of writing to a feeling of completion. If you are looking for a friendly-but-formal Creative Writing tutor with a wealth of experience, you need look no further.
At University, I engaged in a Teaching Experience course, focusing solely on the subjects of Creative Writing and English Literature. I have also tutored one-on-one via Skype and in person over the past couple of years with people from a range of age groups and skill level.
Writing well is its own reward, but crafting the perfect piece just in time for the deadline is pretty satisfying too.
If you are struggling with turning your big ideas into clear and concise language, I can almost certainly help you.
I will work closely with you to develop a polished style, a coherent rhythm, and the sense of a voice that rings true. I can help you refine your understanding of what really distinguishes good writing from unaccomplished writing. I’ll even share some secrets I have picked up along the way which you won’t find in the style manuals.
I have experience in poetry, fiction and non-fiction, so I have an intuitive and considered comprehension of not only how to express oneself, but how to do it with a sense of grace and beauty. Importantly, working with me won't make you feel as though you are being hounded by the Grammar Police. It's more the gentle encouragement of an Artistry Army.
My sessions are informal but firm, serious in the pursuit of perfected prose, but not so much as to be sombre. I'm interested in helping you understand where you can make improvements, and why - while never having to waiver from your true voice.
