Acting / Drama
I'm an actor and a qualified teacher, also a daughter, sibling, wife and mother. I didn't have the confidence as a young person to train as an actor, but I've done so recently at a CDS recognised drama school, so I know what it's like to be a student and find work as a 'jobbing actor'. I feel passionately about performance and what drama can do to develop confidence and make a difference to people’s lives.
Although I have taught full time in secondary education, working with profoundly deaf students at an oral school for three years was particularly rewarding, I have mainly worked as a free-lance teacher, devising workshops in drama and contemporary dance (MMM technique) to a wide age and ability range for theatre and dance companies, schools, colleges and local authorities.
I've prepared students for GCSE and A level drama, LAMDA examinations, both individual and group and students auditioning for Drama schools.
I’ve been a drama coach for a successful Stagecoach franchise for the past twenty years and have extensive experience of facilitating both individuals and large groups where voice and physical presentation skills have been the focus to aid professional development.
I think it’s harder for constructive ‘learning’ to take place unless you like and trust the person you are learning from. So the starting point for me is to find out what a students dreams, fears and expectations of our time together are. At our first meeting, this would be through chatting, games and tasks which I would prepare having established as much information as possible before we meet. But most important is laughter and enjoying the time spent together, otherwise the experience for us both is unsatisfactory.
