Information About Caroline - Cambridge teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Caroline:
I’m passionate about writing, whether it is poems, short stories or novels. I specialize in literary/general fiction and love nothing more than developing the psychology of my characters, crafting the plot as I write, yet letting the story, at times, take me by surprise. I’ve been writing literary fiction since 2008, taking part-time jobs so I could fully embrace my vocation. My fifth novel L’éloge de l’ombre (In Praise of Shadows) was short-listed for the Yann Queffélec Prize (450 novels received, 10 short-listed). My first short story, entitled Firework Trees, was awarded a Highly Commended position in the InkTears competition (600 short stories received, 12 short-listed). I wrote my first novel in English, Heading for the Wall, in 2014 and I’m now completing my seventh novel.
I teach creative writing on a freelance basis, which includes mentoring fellow authors, six-week courses with Cambridge Community Arts (CCA) and leading workshops with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) and at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. I have also created an online writing course: From Idea to Story: Novel Writing Made Easy on Udemy.
‘Caroline was the turning point in my becoming an author.’
The one thing I care the most when teaching languages is helping my students develop confidence in themselves and, as a result, develop fluency. I view mentoring in a similar light.
As a former editor, I’m used to working with authors and giving feedback on manuscripts at any stage of the writing process. I can help you start or resume the writing of your novel, sharpen your style and improve your plot. I have extensive marketing experience as well, which means I can also help with your short/detailed synopsis and the notoriously tricky ‘elevator pitch’.
Writing is my vocation and my passion. Creating stories to share with others has not only given me joy, but also strength and confidence in myself. I would therefore love nothing more than being able to help you develop your writing skills and confidence in your own voice.
