Information About Caroline - Barnet teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Caroline:
I am an award-winning published author of fiction and non-fiction. My book, Smashed on the Steppes - Fear, Loathing and Vodka in the USSR was published by Old Street in March 2013. The Besieged - a Story of Survival was published by Biteback in 2011; I have had three books published previously in the US, and have had writing included in anthologies (eg Rough Guides) and in journals. I also work as an editor and a literary translator of books from Russian to English
I have been tutoring/mentoring private students for twenty years - taking them through the creative journey and holding their hand through the often daunting process of submission to agents and publishers. I also help with academic writing - essays and theses
In 2005-6 I was a creative writing tutor for the Open College of the Arts (affiliated to the Open University)
I also help speakers of second languages who want to be able to write well in English
From 2003-8 I was an active member of the Wimpole Street Writers Group - receiving and offering guidance and support to members who ranged from the as yet unpublished authors to household names
I take a very individual, empathetic approach - adapting my methods to the student's needs. I start by listening to their desired ends - what they want to achieve from our meetings, and then work to build on their strengths and their confidence. I know from experience how helpful it is to have a supportive reader of my work-in-progress and this is what I offer students. Much of my work also involves guidance through the process of submission to agents and publishers.
