This is how 4 referees rated Beth:
I am a published children's author and teach story writing to children 7-11 years. I have a passion for writing, teaching and all things creative.
I am the author of ‘Ernie Gonzales: The Determined Dreamer’, ‘Escape from Paradise’, ‘The Well of Dreams’ and ‘Dreaming with Ernie’; a comprehension workbook to accompany my first novel. I also have a TES shop and make all my own resources based on my books and favourite books of mine. My resources cover comprehension, creative writing exercises and PHSE/mindfulness.
I currently tutor privately and visit schools as author whilst working on new creative writing projects.
Since becoming publishing my first book in 2012 I have been actively involved in schools as an author, running visits for book readings, signings and workshops.
Previously I have worked as a Teaching Assistant in a variety of schools for many years and whilst as a drama teacher in a SEN college for 2 years.
I like to offer a positive and creative approach to learning. One that builds confidence and excitement for creative writing.
My focus is on creative writing/story writing, so exploring how to structure a story, different ‘ingredients’ need to build it (character description, action description, suspense etc) and sentence structure. I am to help your child develop the skills, confidence and ability needed to express their wonderful imagination through their story writing and other forms of creative writing.
Whilst my strength and main focus is creative writing, I can cover comprehension, however I usually save the comprehension questions for homework. I enjoy exploring various books, including my own through comprehension questions, leading to a creative writing piece.
I strive to keep my lessons unique and tailor made to each child. I work from my own books and other childrens fiction that I feel is suitable to each individual child with the aim of capturing and igniting their unique imagination. Areas I will cover is story planning and writing, practicing writing descriptions such character, setting, senses, action, dialogue, plus comprehension exercises (if this is required), writing for different purposes (included persuasive writing).
I throughly enjoy working with children and encouraging them to learn and to stretch their ability. I particularly enjoy working with children to unlock imagination and to guide them to express their story ideas on paper and directing them in sentence structure to best bring the story to life.
I find it a joy to see children grow and developed in their learning, and love teaming up with parents to find ways to help their children improve and reach their goals.

Beth is a fantastic tutor, who has been helping tutoring over Skype and with email support.
Beth's lessons are well structured and my son is given a clear plan for his week’s study. His confidence and knowledge have grown increasingly since he started with Beth. My son says that Beth is one of the best teachers he’s had. I would highly recommend her and I am so glad we found her on firsttutors.
We would highly recommend Beth as a tutor for anyone whose child is struggling with English.
Beth’s approach of making the lessons fun as well as thought provoking,is great for younger children who have the ability to write well, but do not know how to express and show it!
