I have been teaching Sculpture and drawing since, 2007, I started teaching in the Athens College elementary school, up to six year old pupils, 2007. Classes I lead were wood working clay and collage workshops.
I taught for two years my own program at the HAEF, “Contemporary sculpture”, adult scheme in Athens, 2007-2008. I synthesized the program in order to teach and challenge both beginners and more experienced makers. The classes for beginners included: drawing for sculpture, relief and stereo-metrical modeling, whilst the advanced workshop introduced students to representational and abstracted sculpture. Students were introduced to contemporary art practices such us: installation and performance art and to traditional material and techniques (clay and plaster work, polystyrene, cardboard and modeling), whilst they were involved in Waste mould, silicon rubber casting and Bronze casting.
I have been working as a community worker and Art facilitator for the past two years in the Edinburgh based community project - Upward Mobility. I facilitate workshops regularly in Art, illustration and Filmaking. My focus in this role is to make young adults with learning difficulties engage with each subject whilst allowing them to develop their personalities and skills and challenge them to work and think out of the box.
I have taught the art-club program in Moraitis high school, Athens, Greece. High school students, normal program and IB (14 -17 y.o) were involved in a series of workshops, including photography, drawing and sculpture. At the end of the program I assisted the students to organise their annual exhibition that was received very enthusiastically both by the students, parents and school faculty. The program aimed at helping students to choose specific professional traits within the creative sector.
In 2008 I worked as a teaching assistant at Edinburgh College of Art whilst being a student in my first year, MFA course. I participated in group crits with students and faculty and helped 3rd year students setup their intern exhibition.
I’ve been teaching privately, since 2009, both adult and school students.
I always reinforced my Students to develop their personal working methodology by looking into their personality, their interests and hobbies. I believe that through art younger pupils in particular can have a chance discovering their inherent skills and abilities. I believe and teach techniques but I always allow my students to be entrepreneurial, playful and experimental. Through sculpture oneself can be emancipated and open up as I believe that sculpture can be used as a tool to also overcome learning issues.
