Personal Description:
I am a working theatre director and writer with 10 years experience in teaching young people and adults. I am the artistic director of a 5-time Off West End Award nominated theatre company in London that specialises in Shakespeare. I have written 3 novels and am currently working on a new adaptation of Frankenstein for the stage. As well as my work as a tutor, I also work as a freelance content editor and proof reader for many international corporations and companies. I enjoy participating in storytelling in all forms, be it written, spoken, performative or interactive technology.
Teaching Experience:
I am an active personal tutor, working mainly with GSCE and A-Level students in English Language and Literature. I currently have 18-20 students that I see on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. An average expectation that a parent can expect from a long-term commitment to tuition for their child is a progression up in terms of sets, and a rise in their results by approximately two grades. I also work with primary school age groups, and have helped build confidence and creativity through artistic expression and learning to hone their authorial voices. During my work in the theatre industry I have led many workshops and outreach projects designed to build confidence and create new creative skills within young people and adults.
Teaching Approach:
I specialise in exam technique preparation, essay style and structure, as well as Shakespeare. I try to tailor each lesson to what the student needs help with the most, in order for them to get the most out of their time with me. Often students can feel overlooked and unsupported in large classrooms and so I like to take the time to support and foster their understanding of the set texts and core theories as well as engage them in debate to encourage and stimulate their interest in the subject. My goal is to make the lessons as enjoyable as they are informative, and encourage the students to become invested in the books they study, and more critically coherent in their analysis of texts. Literature and reading is about passion and objective analysis, and my goal is to encourage all my students to care about these texts as much as I do.

We only had just over a couple of months before the exams but Ross quickly identified the gaps in our son's learning and put both us and our son at ease. Our son enjoyed his sessions with Ross which was great as he did not enjoy his sessions at school.
Having identified the gap in Ben's learning, Ross quickly made an impact and after only 3 weeks of tutoring Ben's English teacher at school commented on the improvement in his work.
Ben moved from a level 4 to gain a level 6 in English Language and a 5 in English Literature. Furthermore, his positivity towards the subject increased.
We would most definitely recommend Ross as a tutor.
