I am a qualified English teacher with 7 years’ teaching experience. I currently work in an independent primary school in central London as an English teacher to Years 3 and 4; prior to that I taught in a high-performing London academy for three years, teaching up to A-Level, and in a specialist school for children with SpLDs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism.
I have a PGCE, DBS certification, strong academic qualifications and I am a friendly and engaging teacher and tutor. If your child is a reluctant reader or writer, lacks confidence in English or demonstrates gaps in understanding what they read, I can reinvigorate their interest with engaging and individually-tailored sessions.
I have tutored children aged 7 to 18. Given my current role and previous experience, I am an excellent choice if your child is in Years 3 to 9.
I do not currently offer tuition for exams such as 7/8+, 11+, 13+ or SATs, as I believe that to do this effectively requires a time commitment that I am unable to offer alongside full-time work.
Progress in English requires time and effective input from an adult. My sessions ensure your child receives regular support from a professional to bridge this gap and give you peace of mind.
Through targeted questioning, modelling good answers, instant feedback and lots of praise and enthusiasm, I can help to develop their confidence and accuracy as a reader and writer. Using stimulating and enjoyable resources, I teach the following skills:
READING: Decoding, comprehension (recalling and identifying key information), inference, building vocabulary, understanding the author's choices and building our own critical opinions, contextual general knowledge.
WRITING: Handwriting, spelling, punctuation, generating and planning ideas, exciting word choices, developing sentence structure.
How I work online:
I use an excellent online tutoring programme that allows us to use a whiteboard and resources just like in a classroom. No sign up is required - I will simply send you a link to open and the lesson will begin. Your child can produce handwritten work in the lesson, quickly take a picture of it and upload it to the whiteboard for me to see and mark instantly.
I offer a free introductory session of around 30 minutes.
