Juliette

I am a married mother of three grown up children living in Westbury and grandmother to two gorgeous grandsons. I retired in 2022 from running a B&B in Torquay and moved to Wiltshire. I am originally from Kent. I have worked in education for more than 20 years, with over 15 years as a qualified teacher.

Tutoring Experience

As a tutor I have supported students aged between 3 and 23 years old. I worked in a mainstream primary school throughout my degree course and studied through the Graduate Training Programme with a Year 5 class. I have taught all ages of children from Nursery to Year 6, finally leaving the classroom to take on the lead role of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a mainstream school with 450 children and a significant SEN percentage. I was responsible for identifying student difficulties and for developing strategies for raising standards among low attaining and SEN students. I trained teaching assistants to deliver 1:1 interventions and regularly supported children on a 1:1 basis myself. In addition, I was also the lead for our more able students and was fortunate to teach some extremely gifted and talented young people.

Tutoring Approach

My approach would stem from the saying "If a student isn't learning the way you teach, can you teach the way they learn?"

I am a firm believer in mutual respect between teacher and student, setting clear targets which are agreed and understood by the student, selecting activities that develop learning in a style that is suitable for the student, rewarding success and improving confidence in a subject and raising self esteem.
