Joanna

I am an English Language Teacher with extensive experience teaching all ages, abilities and objectives. I have lived and worked in Japan, America and Spain as well as the UK. In addition to teaching, I am a trained life coach and have worked creatively with children, parents and young children and run community markets and craft fairs. I also have a background in business and school administration.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught English as a Foreign Language for over 30 years and love to teach languages (including Spanish and French) as well as learn languages myself. My teaching has taken place in Tokyo, Barcelona, Santiago and England with groups and individuals of all levels and ages. I have taught Cambridge exams: First Certificate, CAE and IELTS, but my experience encompasses a diverse teaching base, including business English, Summer camp lessons for teenagers, general English conversation and customized classes for artists and storytellers, as well as classes for younger children.

Tutoring Approach

My interests in travel, culture, environmental issues, current affairs and personal development inform my teaching of adults. Also my experience of working with children enables me to meet their needs too, whether it's songs and rhymes and games with young children, task based learning for teenagers and young adults or preparation for school entrance exams. Language learning can be fun whatever your goal. In addition to providing a high standard of language learning, I feel that my greatest strengths are firstly my ability to understand and meet the needs of individual students. Also to impart techniques and strategies for learning a language. Finally to instil a sense of the language and culture and an enjoyment of this process.
