Private Maths and English Tuition in Margate

I am a qualified Teacher trained in the UK with 21 years’ teaching experience across a variety of ages and stages within the state school system. I particularly trained as a language specialist working throughout schools supporting my colleagues as an ELP (Early and Primary Language Professional). I have as a result of my accountancy training and additional post graduate learning developed an acute knowledge and awareness of mathematical foundations (that develop mathematical reasoning) and methodology, which I use to further my students mathematical excellence.
I pride myself on my ability to identify and resolve students' difficulties, helping them to 'get unstuck' by teaching them the missing skills they need to become competent, independent and enthusiastic learners. Whatever their starting point, I can support them in their journey by providing them with the necessary tools to get them where they want to be.
I am additionally an experienced Tutor who has been privately tutoring both face to face and online closing gaps in children’s learning by ensuring their foundational learning is intact and moving their learning forward so that if their goal is to take independent schools tests or the 11 plus they have the tools to do so.

Tutoring Experience

I’ve been teaching for over 21 years in State funded schools in the UK. I’ve also been a teacher trainer, am a Literacy Professional, Mathematics Specialist and Senior Teacher and have a TEFL(Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Level 5.
During lockdown I moved the majority of my students online and continue to tutor online.
I have successfully tutored students for Early Years and for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, SATs and supported home tutored children. I have and continue to prepare pupils for Independent and Selective Schools including entrance exams for 7plus,11 plus,12 Plus and 13 Plus for a variety of schools including Rochester, Lincolnshire, Dartford, Tonbridge Wells and Bexley Grammar Schools including the selective Grammar schools.
I support students in their journey as they transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. I also work with students in Key Stage 3 in Mathematics. English and Science and guide them through preparation for GCSE Mathematics, Sciences and English.

Tutoring Approach

As a qualified Teacher I specialise in the use of a variety of learning styles that support, motivate, inspire and enable all students from all levels and needs to achieve their goals.
Being part of an outstanding school I know what is required and can deliver through my experience the personal skills needed by the students to achieve excellent results.
I use a variety of approaches depending on the students age, stage and goals. My focus is on supporting my students to understand the learning process, so that they can ask the right questions and take charge of their own learning. I have a thorough knowledge of several exam syllabuses and can teach students the techniques they need to achieve the required results in exams they are preparing for.
My teaching approach is tailored to meet each student's needs. I work towards creating a safe environment for students to make mistakes and learn from them.
I have high expectations and encourage students to practise the skills learnt not only during the tutoring session, but outside too.
My lessons are based on what the learners need and I make lessons fun and engaging as I believe this enables students in their learning and retention. In my planning I incorporate the students interests to help engage them and put things into context.
I pride myself on being able to develop rapport with students so they feel comfortable to ask questions to extend their understanding further. Making mistakes is an important part of the learning journey and I want students to feel comfortable with this so they can learn from them and build confidence in their abilities.
