I work as a Maths Tutor at the University of East London, where I run workshops for students and staff on a variety of maths and statistics topics. I also see students on individual or group basis to support them in their study. Previously, I was a Senior Researcher in Education at Anglia Ruskin University for thirteen years, before deciding to try out the "front line" and take a PGCE course to train as a teacher of Mathematics (at secondary-school level). After spending a year teaching in a school that had been on special measures, I became interested in one-to-one tuition, and started taking on a few pupils after school in 2009. This activity began to take over my work, so I dropped classroom teaching in favour of one-to-one tuition at various schools in Essex as well as at home. Recently, I have also taken on a part-time lectureship on a Mathematics Enhancement Course (a refresher course for PGCE students) at Anglia Ruskin University, where I am responsible for delivering the statistics modules.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor my approach to suit the individual needs of the tutee, to ensure they can reach their potential. I normally encourage tutees to come for regular (weekly) lessons at my home. I typically work in parallel with what the tutee is covering in class, focussing on the areas where the tutee needs help or clarification. I try to raise the tutee's confidence in order to achieve the best results of which they are capable, and will draw upon a myriad of resources, including past papers.
