I was an engineer in the Royal Air Force for 12 years before moving on to British Aerospace where I worked for 10 years. Whilst at BAe, I became a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) Ambassador. I really enjoyed this role and decided to become a full time teacher. I gained my teaching qualification from the University of Chester in 2007.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a qualified primary school teacher for 15 years and have worked in key stages 1 and 2. I have also taught children with moderate learning difficulties in a designated provision unit. OFSTED described me as "a naturally instinctive teacher". I have a lot of experience teaching in year 6, preparing children for SATs.
I also teach in prisons, teaching convicted adults Maths and English from KS2 level up to GCSE.
I am the maths subject leader.

Tutoring Approach

I feel it's vitally important that the children who work with me feel relaxed and comfortable. I believe it's imperative to 'know and understand' the children I teach, as this helps immensely in understanding their individual needs and learning styles. Regular assessment and monitoring is the key to knowing where a student is so that I can move on their learning allowing them to progress.
I realise that every child has their own learning style. To cater for this, I offer 1:1 and small group tuition (no more than 6 students). I deliver high quality lessons on line and I will accommodate most requests in the interest of learner enjoyment, engagement and progression.
