Online Maths Teacher

I studied Mathematics and its Applications at Cardiff University (graduating 1991), entailing: pure & applied maths, statistics, artificial intelligence, numerical analysis and computing. I went on to qualify as a teacher (PGCE) in 1992 via the Institute of Education, London. In the 1980s I developed a passion for computer programming whilst at secondary schooI and to date have remain engaged in digital projects (graphic design, animations, javascript ...) oft-times using such knowledge to buttress learning in the classroom. I have taught in both independent and state schools.

Tutoring Experience

I taught in South East London and Kent schools during the early 90s. In 1996 I co-founded and headed an independent pre and primary school in Hackney, developing its curriculum in Maths, English, Science, Humanities, Music, Art and P.E. I continued in this field for 19 years before returning to secondary education in 2015.

Since 2017 I have been based at a London secondary school teaching Maths to 11-17 year olds.

Tutoring Approach

• GCSE Maths Exam Preparation - Foundation & Higher Tiers Y11
• GCSE Maths refresher & resit tuition for sixth form & adults
• Maths tuition for secondary-aged students aged 11-14
• GCSE Further Maths (AQA & alternative exam boards)

All my students are considered unique in their manner of learning and therefore I start and maintain my tutoring relationships through listening and dialogue. A step-by-step approach is offered to determine whether a departure from convention is required to keep my students progressing. Patience is always employed and life examples used to develop understanding. I do place a stress on the importance of knowing the definitions of words to ensure continued momentum towards goals.

Keeping a student's spirits up following a day of stress at school is also an important ingredient in any tutoring session.
