Online Maths and English Lessons

I am completing my PhD in Quantum Computing at the University of Edinburgh. I have experience teaching many different students and would like to continue tutoring until my post doctoral research position.

Tutoring Experience

Sep - Nov 2020 - Tutor/Teaching Assistant for Master's level Introduction to Quantum Computing course.
Jan - Mar 2018 - Tutor for Maths for Physics 2 first year undergraduate course.
I have taught students in high school in maths, english and physics and have taught one student for over 3 years. The best thing about tutoring is seeing the students confidence grow, as self-asteem in learning is the most important thing to achieve understanding of a subject.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is different and I would want to spend a session with you/your child going through certain questions and seeing where strengths and weaknesses were. My main goal would be to instil a sense of self-belief and wonder in the subject being studied.

I think it is easy to get left behind in classes of 30 at school, and in classes of 100s at university...sometimes you just need someone to work on a concept with only you for an hour and really clear things up. Moreover, a lot of people struggle with Maths and find it scary, I think it is the most beautiful language with which to describe the world and when you can do something you couldn't do before you really do feel a huge sense of satisfaction and joy!

I know how difficult it is to come from A-level to University Physics - the jump in material is staggering and you feel like you are no longer top of the class. My main strengths are in Quantum mechanics/Advanced Quantum theory/Quantum computing, but I would also be able to help with any first or second year maths courses and some programming such as Java/Python. Again, my approach would be confidence and understanding - not just doing. If you understand a concept you will be able to apply it again and again to any problem, and this is key for completing a physics degree.

With English tutoring I would be mainly concerned with reading...if the student reads as much as possible and writes as much as possible that is the greatest way to learn. We would then discuss several ideas/themes that had come up during reading of the book, and come up with ways to answer set questions from the curriculum.
