I am currently Head of Design & Engineering at an academically selective HMC Independent School. I mainly focus on Resistant Materials, Graphic Design, and Product Design. I studied BSc in Architectural Technology at Northumbria University graduating with a 2:1 before moving on to completing a PGCE in Secondary Design Technology at Northumbria graduating with a 1st.

I have a strong pre-university academic background which includes A-Levels in Design Technology (A), Physical Education (A), and Business Studies (B) and 11 GCSEs at A*-B.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience teaching at all secondary levels - Key stage 3, 4, and 5. I have spent time teaching Design Technology at KS2 as well. As well as specialising in Design Technology I have also spent time working in Special Educational Needs.

I also have an expert-level understanding and knowledge of Solidwork and other CAD packages that allow me to transfer the Design to CAD very easily as well as educate young people on the benefits of CAD.

I have worked in two different large State Schools, an academically selective Independent School and a Behavioural Unit.

Many of the school's pupils go on to study degrees in or relating to Design. These can include Fashion Design, Interior Design, 3D Design, Product Design, and many architecture courses. I am able to mentor tutees who may wish to pursue careers in these areas.

I have worked as a tutor before with children with special education needs in a wide range of subjects including English, Maths, and Science.

Tutoring Approach

I offer KS3 Design Technology, GCSE Product Design, GCSE Resistant Materials and A Level Product Design.

I aim to tailor my tutoring to the needs of the tutee depending on the level required and the time remaining before exams. I am able to accommodate different exam boards and have a good knowledge of a number of different specifications. I like to focus on improving exam technique and can provide past papers and topic specific questions to tutees. I also aim to improve student confidence by encouraging good study techniques to help with revision at all secondary school levels.

I also offer Portfolio preparation and personal statement writing for Foundation and Higher Education Courses

I am willing to travel to the tutees home, or a mutually agreed venue. Equally, I can offer online tuition via Skype to those further afield.
