**** I ONLY OFFER ONLINE TUTORING ****
**** I AM ONLY AVAILABLE AFTER JUNE ****
I have previously worked as a Teaching and Learning Assistant in science subjects, aiding pupils in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stage 3 and GCSE level, both in the classroom and one-to-one.
I currently coach pupils for University modules (MSc and BSc) Biology topics, Entry Level for University (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics), A Level (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) and GCSE (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics).
I have also completed an NVQ Level 3 Specialist Teaching in Speech and Language course, in which I have gained specialist knowledge of learning styles and teaching methods to support students' learning.
I am a university researcher, with PhD, MSc and BSc (Hons) qualifications in Biological Sciences, which gives me a more in-depth understanding of scientific aspects.
I hold an AFHEA teaching qualification for teaching at a university level. In addition, I do have significant assistant teaching and informal teaching experience within secondary school level. I assisted as a demonstrator in a University for undergraduate and postgraduate taught modules. I have worked as a Teaching and Learning Assistant for School Years 7 to 12, between September 2013 and April 2015, aiding pupils with learning difficulties and low attainers to improve their science understanding, and hence their grades. I have also completed an NVQ Level 3 Specialist Teaching in Speech and Language course, in which I have gained specialist knowledge of learning styles and teaching methods to support students' learning. I have worked with Key Stage 3 and GCSE pupils in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, both in the classroom and one-to-one. I also taught science and conservation in classrooms and field study centres in Ghana and Costa Rica.
In addition, I've taught groups of Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh participants, covering topics such as navigation, camp craft, first aid skills and outdoor safety. All of the young people entered for their Expedition assessment from our centre have passed.
With my academic background and teaching/tutoring experience I can help pupils with a variety of different topics and scientific concepts, improve exam essay writing, develop skills to aid in learning vocabulary, refine exam techniques and suggest a variety of revision methods.
Due to my experience in a school environment I understand the need for different methods of teaching to ensure understanding, as all young people learn differently. I always try to adapt the tutoring style to the pupil's preferred learning style where possible.
