Antony

I am currently the Head of Mathematics Department at an outstanding academy, with a degree in mathematics and over 20 years teaching experience. I have helped over 40 satisfied clients with First Tutors and I am a friendly person with and outward going nature. Although my location is quoted as Littleborough I am actually based in Shaw Oldham, and can freely travel across the Manchester, Tameside and Oldham areas. I enjoy my subject and helping pupils to achieve their true potential goal. I am an enthusiastic person with a love of the history of mathematics, an area that helps make sense of some of the most difficult areas (after all mathematics was invented for a reason). I enjoy cricket and skiing (when I can).
Oh apoligies for the photo it's the only one I had, please don't be put off!!

Tutoring Experience

I am currently the head of department at Moor End Academy which is the beacon school for the Pennine Alliance (you can seem my profile on their site) and have been a secondary teacher for over 20 years. I am also an exam marker for Edexcel one of the key examining boards at GCSE, this giving me an alternative perspective on the requirements of GCSE.
In addition to teaching GCSE and Functional skills maths, I have also been teaching A-Level mathematics (Core and Mechanics) and further mathematics. As such I am fully versed in the current changes within GCSE with the 1 to 9 system. I have been a private tutor for over 10 years, tutoring GCSE and A level. All of the pupils I have tutored have succeeded in their examinations achieving higher grades than predicted by their schools. Six years ago I also tutored 9 teaching assistants for Manchester Education, to pass their mathematics examinations.
I am fully conversant with the new 1-9 GCSE system and levels, plus the added responsibility of taking the new 3 paper.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is lead by giving pupils the confidence that every one can succeed at mathematics if they are given the correct tools to do so. (for example "what is nought point one divided by naught point nought two"?, this is the same as 10p divided by 2p??) I try and put the subject in the pupils "ball park" by giving alternate methods to help with a better understanding of the subject. I adopt a calm and meticulous approach to my tutoring giving the pupil confidence in their ability and helping them achieve their true potential. I use my own resources and ICT, together with past papers where required to enhance the learning experience. It has often been commented upon that I make things so easy. Please see my references from past tutees.
