Private Online Maths Tuition

I am 59 years old and I recently took early retirement from IT Management where I was Pricing major outsourcing contracts. I studied Maths at University to MSc level and first worked as a mathematician in industry before switching to IT. I have always enjoyed tutoring and teaching in my job and I plan to carry on with that into semi-retirement.

I live in a small village just north of Bedford. My hobbies include Music and Hifi, Fitness and Narrowboating

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring for over a year now and have helped in excess of 20 students at GCSE and A-level.
During my postgraduate studies I supervised undergraduates and also delivered a number of seminars to 1st and 2nd year students. In my career I have had a number of assignments delivering training courses both managerial and technical. I am a qualified squash coach and have coached junior and adult squash. More recently I have been helping with revision sessions at a local upper school.

"Andy was able to make maths relevant and easy to understand - something I struggled with in a classroom situation. Before tutoring with Andy, I was worried I wouldn’t get a pass at GCSE, but thanks to his patience and knowledge of the varied curriculum, I exceeded my grade expectations!" - SC

"Andy is a great tutor, he explains things clearly and starts from the basics. He is friendly, enthusiastic and I would highly recommend him." - LS

Tutoring Approach

I believe there are certain basic skills that are essential to progress with mathematics. My approach is to address the basic skills and then follow up with practice and more practice. I have found in all my teaching experience that progress is enhanced if the tutee has fun. Self motivation is the most efficient way of progressing and enjoyment of the activity enhances motivation.

I am approachable and patient and try to spend time assessing the tutees individual needs and designing tasks and exercises to address those needs.
