I have been a successful private tutor for the last ten years, working with a growing number of students; with great success. I have also been an examiner at A level for AQA for a good many years, which gives me an excellent insight into how to teach to the exam. I have also examined at GCSE.

On average, I add two grades to a student's attainment.

When my details are purchased, I can share with the student my blog which has a large number of testimonials from past students.

In recent years I have acquired extensive - and successful - experience in tutoring Government and Politics.

I am 57 years old.

Tutoring Experience

On average I add 2 grades to a student's performance and often 3 or 4. In 2021 I guided 3 students through re-taking A level History and awarded them A*, A* and A. These grades were supported with substantial evidence and were upheld by the board. Other students I supported achieved A*, A, A, A, A, B, B and C. All were above attainment when we started work.
Over the last 10 years or more many other students have achieved the A* and A.

In the summer 2022 examinations, 4 of my A level students achieved A*, 5 attained an A and 7 scored a B. A number of these were 2 or more grades above what they were projected to get at the time we commenced tuition. Five students got into Oxford or Cambridge with one scoring full marks on one paper.

Before embarking on private tutoring, I taught for nearly 20 years at a large secondary school with 8 of them as head of department. I worked closely with Bristol University in training History teachers as an associate tutor and was also professional tutor, with responsibility for all PGCE students at my school.

Tutoring Approach

I am informal and relaxed, with a heavy emphasis on subject expertise and thorough preparation. I am also prepared to mark any work thoroughly as and when the student requires. My approach is geared entirely towards the needs of the individual student. I like to make students see the lighter side of their work sometimes!

I can also provide extensive, self penned, notes for most History subject areas. I also have extensive notes for Politics

Notes and marking involve no extra charge.
