Information About Rafiya - Claremont tutor

Personal Description:

I reside with my mother and brother. I am the youngest out of two. My mother tutors primary school children and my brother is an interior designer. My parents always encouraged me to do my best and to work hard. I am a firm believer in the following sayings “Nothing ventured, nothing gained” and “The sky is the limit and the world is your oyster”. For the past five years the University of the Western Cape (UWC), particularly the Science Faculty, has moulded and shaped me into a skilled biotechnologist.

I am ambitious and driven. I thrive on challenges and constantly set goals for myself, so I have something to strive towards. I’m always looking for an opportunity to do better and help people. I would like to make a difference in people’s lives. For the past three years I have been a tutor for primary school learners. I also became a laboratory assistant at the University of the Western Cape, which has helped me to understand the workplace environment and encouraged me to further my studies. My strengths include being logical, methodical, hardworking, organised, having a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. I also have excellent communicative skills. My weaknesses include the fear of not being successful and a lack of confidence due to inexperience. My short term goals are to complete my Masters's in genetics as well as be able to work at a reputable laboratory. My long term goal is to be able to be a successful scientist and to find a cure for various rare diseases.

Tutoring Experience:

For the past three years, I have been a tutor for primary school learners. I assist primary school learners in Maths, Natural Science and Geography as well as other subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I provided individual attention and focus on one subject per lesson. I help them with their homework as well as preparing for examinations. I do past papers with them in order to practice various types of questions. I focus on their problematic areas first to ensure they have an understanding of the concept.
